Folksville brings you three of Edinburgh's best folk acts: Paper Sparrows, Caro Bridges and Other Dog.
Alt-folk/americana trio 'Paper Sparrows'. Hot off the heals of their Dec 21 release of debut 'Silver EP', the band return to the Assembly stage to kick off a big year of tours and the forthcoming release of their debut album.
Following a break due to the pandemic, the band played shows as part of Assembly Festival's run at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2021 and recorded their first full-length album at Chamber Studio in Edinburgh. As part of the sessions, they recorded and released their debut EP (the 'Silver EP') on Folksville Records in December 2021 - followed by a sell-out launch at the Pleasance Theatre in Edinburgh. They have also played the Big Burns Supper Festival in Dumfries and at several clubs across Edinburgh, Glasgow, Fife and Stirling. The album is scheduled for a 2022 release.
The group hosts Edinburgh folk club 'Folksville', which has become a hub for musical talent in the city. During the pandemic, the band ran high-quality online programmes featuring artists including Kris Drever, Katherine Priddy and folk legend Rod Clements.
This will be the first outing of Caro’s new outfit - a collaboration with harpist Deb Shaw (aka Aurora Engine) and violinist Emma Lloyd. Caro’s sweet and earthy vocals and articulate guitar lifted by Deb and Emma’s expert ethereal strings. Jazz and folk-infused songs landing somewhere between the sea and space.
Other Dog play melodic folky/indie tunes. Someone once described their songs as a mix between Belle & Sebastian and Nick Cave. "We'll take that, thanks" say the band. "They're folk songs, in one way or another".
