About the Roxy

Assembly Roxy is a unique venue situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. The historic former church building houses three main spaces all equipped with modern sound and lighting systems. Roxy Upstairs is a theatre space with raked seating for up to 169 audience members, while Roxy Downstairs is a more intimate studio space seating up to 60 people. The largest is Roxy Central; a truly unique and beautiful space, with original features, a stage and a bar area. It is a flexible space seating up to 250, and where we hold a wide variety of events, ranging from theatrical productions, ceilidhs, weddings and corporate events. Assembly Roxy is also home to the Snug Bar, a cosy space to relax before, during or after an event, and where we also host intimate events, readings, live music and performances in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Roxy is well known for its use during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and is now open all year round.

Your Visit

Here’s our quick guide on visiting the Roxy:

Getting ready

Tickets

The quickest and easiest way to purchase tickets for our shows is online. Take a look at What’s on.

We’ll be operating an e-ticketing system. Once you purchase a ticket we'll send you a booking confirmation with a barcode – just bring this on your device to be scanned at the venue before your show.

Keep an eye on your inbox as we’ll be in touch if you need to know any additional information before heading to your chosen performance and make sure you’ve got plenty of charge on your phone to show the team your ticket.

Not feeling well?

If you are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, need to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive or are unable to attend due to ill health, please get in touch with us as soon as possible to exchange your tickets for another performance. Just forward your booking confirmation to [email protected] and we’ll see how we can help.

Cancelled performances

In the event that Government restrictions change requiring us to cancel a performance, you will be entitled to an automatic refund. We’re afraid we are unable to refund booking fees as this covers the costs charged by your payment provider when processing refunds.

Arriving at the venue

When to arrive

To give us plenty of time to seat everyone comfortably, we aim to open our doors 30 minutes before performances. Whilst waiting, you may be asked to join a distanced queue outside the venue.

Your e-ticket will be scanned and validated by a member of the team in advance of entering the venue.

Make sure you arrive with plenty of time as some shows are unable to accommodate latecomers.

Ordering a drink

Depending on which venue you visit and when you may be asked to order drinks to be delivered to your table via your phone or by ordering in person at the bar. Information will be available at your table and from our team to let you know the easiest way to place an order.

For in-person payments, we will only accept contactless payments at our bars and box offices.

Entering the venue

A member of our Front of House team will show you to your seats which are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. We will endeavour to seat you with those you are attending with but this cannot be guaranteed. We will physically distance different groups in line with Scottish Government guidelines.

We kindly request that you wear a face covering whilst indoors if you can.

Many of our indoor spaces will be operating with one-way systems in place so make sure to follow signage or instructions from the team when moving around.
