Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award winner, Susie McCabe, has been lighting up the Assembly Festival with her critically acclaimed stand-up comedy shows for 6 years. We took a trip down memory lane with Susie, reflecting on her journey, the laughs she's shared, and the unforgettable moments that have defined her time at the Fringe.
Our first stop takes us to The Box, a 75-seat shipping container tucked away in Assembly George Square. It was here that Susie McCabe made her Assembly Festival debut with her show Domestic Disaster. The setup was simple: a stool, a bottle of water, and a Berocca — all Susie needed to deliver big laughs.
“I loved it,” Susie recalls. “And it was my first experience working with Assembly, which was a really positive experience as well. I've been here ever since — they can't get rid of me.”

It was a short walk to Susie’s next venue, Studio 2 — a step up in both size and energy. The space marked a turning point in her Fringe journey.
“The thing with Assembly is… it’s not one of these venues that’s purely stand-up,” Susie explains. “It offers up so much — cabaret, drag, songs, plays, musicals. With Assembly, you're just in a hub of everything.”
As we approach the venue, Susie pauses, a smile spreading across her face. "This room has given me some of my best ever gigs at the Fringe and has allowed me to grow a Fringe Audience."
By 2024, Susie had stepped into the spotlight at Studio 3 — and quickly made it her own. "This room was giving me big numbers. It's a 250 seater, but I was getting that midweek and weekends. Putting on extra shows and it really, you know, made me feel that I was part of something," she reminisces. "It was such a great time."
Now, she’s taking on her biggest venue yet. This year, the Gordon Aikman Theatre becomes home to Best Behaviour — a brand new hour that unpacks the moments leading up to, during, and following McCabe’s heart attack last year.
"Hopefully, every single one of you — either you've been once, or you've been to all my shows — hopefully you enjoyed my show enough that you come back."
Don't miss Susie McCabe at Assembly George Square, Gordan Aikman Theatre - 04 - 24 Aug, 2025.
